Review Questions for Prototypes
- Do the resources have the appropriate amount of emphasis?
- Do the icons convey appropriate meaning?
- Do the labels use the natural language of users?
- Does the design work for new users and advanced users?
- Do you see any show stoppers? (e.g. the news box may cause too much scrolling)
User-Centered Design Process
- Library web committee forms usability sub-group to perform user research and make design recommendations. Sub-group includes Usability Analyst, Information Literacy Librarian, Assistant Dean, Program Assistant, Student Research Assistant
- Sub-group coordinates survey, interviews, development of early prototypes, web stats analysis, and user profiles/task analysis.
- Library web committee reviews research and sends prototypes to library faculty and staff for feedback.
- Sub-group analyzes feedback and develops revised prototypes.
- Library web committee reviews feedback and revised prototypes. This group invites librarians and area managers to a usability round table to discuss prototypes.
- Sub-group facilitates round table and incorporates feedback into late prototypes.
- Sub-group facilitates performance tests on late prototypes.
- Sub-group coordinates late prototype revisions.
- Library web committee reviews performance tests and late prototypes.
- Sub-group coordinates any additional late prototype revisions.
- Sub-group completes reports.
- Library web committee approves final design and sends reports to library faculty and staff.
